Back in blogging action

I have felt a certain lack of words lately. I’m not sure what it’s about – I am probably just introverting like crazy, and reverting to survival mode, which simply equates to “get it done.” And so when the alarm goes off at 6:30, I get out of bed, stare blankly back at my face in the mirror, and then pull on my walking shoes and kick my own butt out the door. I wipe the kitchen counter and go to work and talk and laugh and meet friends for dinner, and return home exhausted and vacuous. Some days.
But then, I have days like today! My friend Jenn is in town from Denver, and we are launching into a sparkly girly weekend. We have already walked Lake Union this morning, and so we’re feeling good. We’re in the process of getting ready, which means PUTTING ON DRESSES to GO DOWNTOWN and BE FABULOUS.
Being with Jenn gives me flashbacks to high school in Montrose, Colorado, a small town that is now in the process of “booming.” Real estate is sky-rocketing, traffic is forming, and I hear that there’s even a Chili’s these days. But back in our day, things were smaller, quieter, and yes, pretty redneck. I could not wait to get out of the land of Wal-Mart, Slurpees, and slouch socks. Two-toned. Double-layered. Slouch socks.
Oh yes, I was city-bound, and headed to Seattle with grand visions of the metropolitan lifestyle. I have been here for 7 years, and I love the city life. I do not miss the trucks with Christmas wreaths on the front, or kids in their pajamas at Wal-Mart at 11pm. I do not miss the scandal and the small-town drama, or the cows.
But you know what I DO miss? The little red Chevy that I used to drive. I was infinitely cooler when I drove a truck. And since I forgot to put the Club on my Honda for the past 2 nights in a row, I must be subconsciously asking for someone to take it again.
Not this weekend though – we need those wheels. We are going to do this town. And we might even ride The Duck. :)

which is worse – kids at Walmart in pj’s at 11pm, or kids in pajamas at DIA at 3pm???

The little red truck was definitely cool. And Montrose is definitely different from when we lived there…they are getting a Target, JC Pennys, and Red Lobster added to the recent additions of Chilis, Cold Stone Creamery, and random other stores that make you stop and say “Am I really in Montrose?”

Ummm, you were still wearing two-toned slouch socks 7 years ago? Now, I did grow up in the “big” city of Jackson Mississippi but we let those go with 1989.

Sarah… I didn’t say that IIIIIII was wearing two-toned slouch socks. Just that SOME were. Moms at soccer games. Or at the liquor store.
