Can’t read my, can’t read my

blog

Before Sunday night, I didn’t know who Lady Gaga was.

I know.  I KNOW.  I am the least cool person in the universe.  You, reading my words right now?  I’M NOT WORTHY.

I had heard of her, but it was sort of like my knowledge of Google Wave.  OH!  I know that! What is it?  Um… I have no idea.

It turns out that Lady Gaga is sort of a big deal these days.  She opened the Grammys in a blaze of freaky glory.  This chick is WEIRD, y’all.  But wouldn’t you know, after one listen to her song “Poker Face,” IT IS ON REPEAT.

This song is from 2008, and somehow, I had never heard it.

Doesn’t matter though – I am GrooveSharking the fire out of this song.  It’s pretty ridiculous, actually – because since when have I liked dance music?  If only my iTunes was up and running, because if I had this song on my iPod, I am pretty sure I could run forever.

Which leads me to my question… what is your favorite guilty pleasure song?  This is a safe place – like a fire station or a hospital.  No shame here.  Maybe a tiny bit of shame.  But not enough to not say anything.

(And yes, I am purposefully not blogging about the final season premier of “Lost” tonight.  Anything that I could write or think or say would not come close to how I FEEL.  Suffice it to say that I am having trouble focusing on ANYTHING ELSE today.)

I have an ENTIRE playlist of songs that I only listen to while I’m snowboarding or going to and from the mountain. The playlist is only hip-hop, rap, new R&B and the like. The most shameful one on there: “If it’s lovin that you want” by Rihanna.

Every time I walk into the gym and push through the double doors… “American Woman” by Lenny Kravitz plays in my head… or on my ipod. I also pretend to be Sydney Bristow as I do this.

If you like “Poker Face”, you will really like “Bad Romance”, which was my Lady Gaga introduction song. Dan makes so much fun of me for it, but I can’t help myself.

  4. Alissa on February 2, 2010 at 12:33 PM

“I Gotta Feeling” by Black Eyed Peas – cannot help but jump around when that one is on. Plus, the 2 year old will sing along. Priceless.

  5. Rod on February 2, 2010 at 12:57 PM

David Bowie’s epic “Modern Love” is at the top of my list right now in the guilty pleasures catergory. That song is pure dynamite!

As much as I can’t stand Eminem and everything he stands for, I gotta say “lose yourself” is a great song.

  7. Miranda on February 2, 2010 at 1:20 PM

For sure – Miley Cyrus – “Party in the USA”

  8. Miranda on February 2, 2010 at 1:20 PM

Or “Boom Boom Pow” Black Eyed Peas

  9. Holly on February 2, 2010 at 1:24 PM

I didn’t know who Lady Gaga was either. The Grammys (and other awards shows!) always make me realize how out of the loop I am! Ashlee Simpson is my guilty pleasure music. I can only listen to it when my husband isn’t home :D

I am not (all that) ashamed to say that I like Lady Gaga. “Just Dance” got me through training for a marathon and while I initially thought it was stupid, I love “Telephone”. Probably 80% of the music I listen to could be qualified as guilty pleasures but since you asked: Jason DeRulo, Adam Lambert (the one song I’ve heard that I like), Pitbull…

  11. Jaime on February 2, 2010 at 2:18 PM

Found your blog via friend of a friend…. had to comment.

Sadly, I am not in the Lady Gaga club either. But Miley’s “Party in the USA” is one that I am ashamed to say I like. And I am loving most things by Pitbull these days. Madness!

I hear you sister… this work day is SHOT. Everything between now and 7pm Central standard is just noise.

Alas, my fave guilty pleasure song is, “I Wanna Know What Love Is” by Foreigner. Who are, incidentally, coming to the Ryman in March. Think about it.

I also love anything Fergie sings. I know.

  13. Sarah on February 2, 2010 at 2:35 PM

Ha… check out the video for bad romance… I think she goes through every outfit in the link you posted and then some! I’m w/ Miranda and Alissa on the Black-Eyed Peas :)

  14. Tad on February 2, 2010 at 3:02 PM

Kelley- There is no need to feel guilty about anything from Foreigner! 80’s Butt-Rock is AWESOME!!

I’m not gonna lie though, my seriously guilty song is Bailamos by Enrique Inglesias. That song came out before we all discovered he’s a wining weekling.

  15. Tad on February 2, 2010 at 3:03 PM

    weakling I should say.

  16. hootenannie on February 2, 2010 at 3:04 PM

    Oh holy night.

Tad, “Bailamos” is my favorite answer so far!

  17. Stephie on February 2, 2010 at 3:26 PM

This was my sister & me watching the Grammy’s:

Me: “Oh really, Jay Z and Biancee are married!??!” Who knew…

  18. Katie on February 2, 2010 at 4:35 PM

My entire running playlist is full of guilty pleasures. In fact, that playlist is called Guilty Pleasures. The most embarassing: Leavin’ by Jesse McCartney. Followed closely by Jason DeRulo’s In My Head. Sadly, that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

make sure you don’t miss lady gaga’s ‘paparazzi’ either…

  20. Nashville Miranda on February 2, 2010 at 5:14 PM

My guilty pleasure right now is the Jay Sean song “Down” featuring Lil Wayne. I love working out to it!

  21. rachel on February 2, 2010 at 5:16 PM

so i found out more about peaches, the musician who was outrageous about 12 years before lady gaga.

please note the light in the crotch of her outfit in the first photo.
i think that this is why public radio called lady gaga a watered down version of this girl.

  22. Whitney on February 2, 2010 at 6:22 PM

I love guilty pleasure music too much to actually feel guilty about it. Tik Tok by Ke$ha…I mean, come on, she has a $ in her name! Anything by 3Oh!3, and Whatcha Say by Jason Derulo. Ha!

Unfortunately, I really dislike Lady Gaga. I can see it’s catchiness though.

  23. Tad on February 2, 2010 at 6:58 PM

Why am I not surprised to not see Sisquo’s “Thong Song” listed here. I think that one takes the blue ribbon for “Worst Song EVER!”

  24. Matt on February 2, 2010 at 7:05 PM

I’ll admit that I can be a music snob at times (Who listens to those songs on the radio anyway?!), but I love, love, love the song Don Quichote by Magazine 60. I sort of want to be Justin Timberlake at times too, but maybe that’s for another post.

  25. Sarah Kate on February 2, 2010 at 9:45 PM

Since Dallas radio stations SUCK, I have resorted to the local hip-hop/pop station when the Christian one drives me nuts. Lady Gaga frequently comes up as do other choice rap artists. Sometimes I want to die but it gives me something to listen to without juggling cd’s or my ipod.
Funny that you wrote about this today as I just spent the better part of an hour watching Lady Gaga videos. SO strange.

    Guilty Pleasure Workout Songs:

    1. Neil Diamond “Coming to America”
    2. Bonnie Tyler “I Need a Hero”
    3. Bucky Covington “It’s Good to Be Us”

That being said, I’ve missed every single weightloss goal I’ve set for myself in 3 months, so…maybe these don’t work.

    Disregard.

  27. elsie on February 3, 2010 at 12:01 AM

Do the names “Wilson” & “Phillips” mean anything to you?

  28. Duane on February 3, 2010 at 3:32 AM

Bryan Adams – Run To You. but you already knew that. more importantly, how crazy was LOST tonight? Sayid!!!

  29. Little AP on February 3, 2010 at 3:23 PM

Probably either “La Bamba” or anything by Herman’s Hermits.

  30. Juliette on February 3, 2010 at 10:50 PM

Can I just say that I’m always embarrassed when I enjoy the slightly more uptempo Glee version of songs more than the beloved originals?

  31. annie on February 4, 2010 at 11:33 AM

My first glimpse of Lady Gaga was when she opened for New Kids on the Block in 2008! (I went with a bunch of friends from HS.) I never would have guessed she’d get so far, although her tunes are catchy. I like “paparazzi.”

  32. Tad on February 4, 2010 at 3:22 PM

Little AP: Music from the 50’s & 60’s is the best music ever recorded (outside of Classical) There’s no need to feel any guilt about listening to Herman’s Hermits or Richie Valens or anyone else. I love the Dave Clark Five.

one of the best 5 minutes of my day reading all these comments!

Top 4 reasons I will never play my ipod on shuffle in a room full of people who intimidate me:

    Faith, George Michael
I’ll tumble 4 ya, Culture Club
    Kelly Clarkson
    Mariah Carey

  34. Jacklyn Johnston on February 5, 2010 at 4:24 PM

I’m glad I’m not alone in that my whole running playlist is full of my guilty pleasures. What’s really sad is that I’m pretty sure I sometimes sing out loud accidentally on runs. Whoops. My favorite right now- Tick Tock by Kesha. Embarrassing :)

  35. hootenannie on February 5, 2010 at 5:31 PM

    Gaga, ooh la la.

  36. Riley on February 7, 2010 at 4:29 PM

“africa” by karl wolf… it’s a remake of the todo song. I have been playing it over and over and over since DECEMBER. that’s saying a lot.

  37. Helen on February 19, 2010 at 7:05 PM

She Wolf by Shakira… People always start yelling at me when I play it, but I don’t care. I love it.
