A special weekend Muxtape

blog

I knew I could count on you. The music suggestions that you gave me this past week have succeeded in breaking me out of my same ol’ same ol’ playlists, and expanded my musical horizons. I have been stretched, I have been grown, I have been challenged, and for this, I thank you.

I also thank you for not recommending any Sufjan Stevens. I am shocked, you guys – someone always suggests Sufjan. It’s not that I have anything against the guy – he is inventive and interesting and very gifted… he just does it all in a very CHANGLY way. You know – changles of bells, and changles of chimes, and changles of banjos… I can only take him one song at a time.

I spent far too many dollars downloading at least one song suggestion from every person who commented, and even branched out from the suggestions when I found other songs that I liked (I know, look at me, all FREE STYLE). I chose my top 12 for a Muxtape mix, but only 7 would convert to mp3’s, so, um… sorry. Listen to my top 7 picks here – and if you like the songs, iTunes them.

(By the way, the 5 that got left out by reason of unconvertibility out were:
“Shame” – The Avett Brothers
“Hard Times” – eastmountainsouth
“Arizona” – Kings of Leon
“Paper Bag” – Fiona Apple
“Nashville” – David Mead)

If your suggestions didn’t make the short list, don’t worry. I have ALL of my purchases compiled in a playlist entitled “Blog Readers Suggest…” and it’s sure to be the soundtrack to every social gathering in which I feel the need to impress my guests with my COOLNESS… even if it’s only borrowed from you, the authentically cool.

I think we should be proud of ourselves for having good taste. Group hug? No, you’re right. Fists in the air.

    You wrote a Saturday blog!!!

Like WATER to a dying man!

    Er, woman.

p.s. I just saw “Dark Knight”and Christian Bale is just sooo….freaking….dreamy… It might be worth a gander, even for those that are not pro-Batman. The only problem? They kept covering him up in black latex. Let the man EXHIBIT people!!

    Honestly.

    very worthy picks Annie!

“I want you to be my love” is right up there in my top five with Patty Griffin’s “Heavenly Day”

Also, my friend lindsay got to play in the string quartet with Sleeping at last a couple months ago, how amazing would that be?? They are incredible.

    Hi Annie!
Great blog! I’m listening to your muxtape picks right now…fantastic! I would have recommended eastmountainsouth and over the rhine, but they were already on other’s lists… :) Music sharing just makes me smile–know your picks are being enjoyed on the other side of the globe!
    Blessings!

i’m glad you came to your senses, annie girl. It’s far too hot for a group hug.

as an aside: the magical code word i have to type in below is “gnerl.” Can you please make-up a definition for this? It sounds like something you might do. Just sayin.

    Whoa. A Saturday blog?!

I *heart* Griffin House. Well, his music at least. I don’t actually know him…because I couldn’t find anyone to introduce us at the party last month. For shame.

I’ll be thinking of music to send to you….

So, I’m playing catch-up and I’m a little behind. The link was broken, so I couldn’t check – do you have any Katie Herzig on there? Courtney introduced me and my “not-on-top-of-the-music-scene” self to her and she’s pretty much great.
