When did I get old enough…

blog

– To go to bed every night by 10pm?
– To attempt to eat from the food pyramid?

– To create a budget?

– To have kids I used to babysit for getting engaged?
– To have friends getting married?
– To have friends getting divorced?
– To have friends getting boob jobs?
– To have a retirement account?
– To buy age-defying makeup?

– To experience an existential crisis?
– To worry – really worry – about the world, the environment, and the government?
– To refer to myself as a “woman,” and not as a “girl”?
– To plan my upcoming weekend around home improvement projects?

That’s right, folks. My weekend will be consumed with stripping and refinishing some bedroom furniture. And when I say “stripping,” I am referring to paint, and not to my clothing. Although that would most certainly give the neighbors something to talk about.

I have absolutely no idea how to go about this task – but that’s what the internet is for. I am researching the appropriate methods online, and then crossing my fingers as I begin the job this evening. Here’s hoping that Monday brings a glorious victory post, and not an “L is for LAME.”

I would be lying if I said I didn’t want to know who was getting a boob job!!! :-)

I wish I was there to help with your home improvement project – my one first love. A few tips: don’t even try to keep your grubby clothes clean, its impossible; have music/conversation/movie going; be proud of yourself, a lot of people just depend on already “done” furniture. Lame.
Pretty soon you’ll be wielding a nail gun like a pro. xx

Stripping furniture isn’t so bad – just takes a LOT of elbow grease! I did it to my dresser and it took all day – but I love the results! Good luck with your home makeover! ;)

And I’ve been asking myself those same questions lately…

I think I’m a year closer to 30 than you, so let’s see how we compare.

    – To go to bed every night by 10pm?

** Since Kyle gets up at either 5:15 or 7am for work and I get up somewhere between 5:30 and 7:00am for work, we go to bed at a reasonable hour, too. I used to stay up til 3am and sleep til noon. Now, at 10pm, we debate whether we can function the next day if we watch another episode of Battle Star Galactica.

    – To attempt to eat from the food pyramid?
*** Sometimes I try and sometimes I don’t bother. I have articles on the fridge, but it’s hard to plan healthy meals when Kyle won’t eat beans of any sort, brown rice, the same vegetables as me etc. So, we eat a lot of burgers, pizza, and broccoli. (Which is why I weigh 30 pounds more than I did when we met.)

    – To create a budget?
*** I am an obsessive budgeter. At one point, I had my budget out for 3 years to figure out when I could be debt free. It’s partially to keep myself out of trouble and partially because it’s cathartic to tweak the numbers in my little tables.

    – To have kids I used to babysit for getting engaged?
*** How old were you when you were babysitting? That’s crazy.

    – To have friends getting married?
*** Well, since my best friend in high school got married the autumn after graduation… it’s been happening for pushing ten years. (Incidentally, they are celebrating their 9th wedding anniversary this month!)

    – To have friends getting divorced?
*** Yup, got a couple of those, too.

    – To have friends getting boob jobs?
*** Not that I’m aware of, anyway.

    – To have a retirement account?
*** My sister and I talked about this last year. Of course, with the markets as they are, will we have enough to retire on in 40 years?

    – To buy age-defying makeup?
*** I don’t actually buy any make-up. I think the last time I wore any was Kyle’s birthday dinner 2 years ago. As for age-defying make-up, up until the past couple of years, I could used some that added 5 years. I say that now, but I bet it all catches up with me one day and I look 90 years old when I’m 50 rather than 18 years old when I’m 24. (Now I’m pushing 28 and at least I look like I’m in my 20s.)

    – To experience an existential crisis? I don’t so much worry about the meaning of life as much as I think about things like, “Money only has value because we all agree it does. What if one day it has no meaning and we have to go back to bartering? Could I grow grain? Could I sew clothes?”

    – To worry – really worry – about the world, the environment, and the government?
*** The other night, Kyle and I were supposed to be going to sleep, but we were instead keeping ourselves awake by tossing and turning and agreeing that the current state of the world scares us and actually stresses us out.

    – To refer to myself as a “woman,” and not as a “girl”?
*** I refer to myself as a woman, but I feel weird doing it.

    – To plan my upcoming weekend around home improvement projects?
*** LOL I’ll NEVER do that. I’m certain I’d break things rather than making them better. Good luck with that, though!

L is for love you. Good luck with the stripping. :)

Just make sure you follow the directions on the chemical stripper bottle. If you rush it, scraping the old paint off will be really hard.

I got called “That lady” the other day. When did I become old enough for that?

I love home-improvement projects and when I moved partook (?) in quite a few. Hope you had fun!

I like you. I ask myself those same questions all the time.
