A smörgåsbord of wisdom from a co-worker

“It is so freezing today.”

“Can you do anything to change that?”

“No.”

“Then don’t worry about it.”

“We have a gas furnace in our new house. Is it better to have electric heat, or gas?”

“Do you have a choice?”

“No.”

“Then don’t worry about it.”

“I have to get an oil change, and a new headlight, and my computer fixed, and new tabs for my car, and refill my prescription, and buy more insurance, and pay SEVENTY-FIVE DOLLARS to get my bridesmaid dress altered.”

“Can you do without any of those things?”

“No.”

“Then don’t worry about it.”

Excellent! “Then don’t worry about it” might be my motto. I say it a LOT. Sometimes I switch worry out for “stress,” but the message is the same. I’ve used it a ton this week since my wife is giving her dissertation proposal today in front of all the WSU design faculty and visiting international profs. I’ve also been singing the Karate Kid theme song “You’re the best – around – and nothing’s gonna ever keep you down,” but that doesn’t apply in as many situations. Still a useful tool though.

Methinks you have Aristotle for a coworker.

Methinks that Little AP is smarter than this AP. :) Look at you, girl – Aristotle references?

You rock my socks off. :)

Thanks for that, girlie… It offers a wee bit of sanity and comfort today, having freaked out earlier in the week about the $430 I had to dish out to get my car fixed/oil changed/tires rotates… and STILL awaiting the last of the month bills I have yet to pay.

Can I do anything about it? NO.

Can I trust in the Father’s provision and grace? YES.

I think I would find that both annoying and reassuring. Love that you used German accents in the spelling of “smorgasbord.” :)

    Little Grass-Hopper:

A wise lady once said, “You must take action to get action”.

Fretting about money will only lead to stress and strain. That which you spend money on is an investment. What are you investing in? Only you can know that. Do not worry about what is beyond your control.

    I love this, except…

    What are tabs?

Nothing to do with this post, but do you also do some acting? Because I swear I just saw you on a pizza hut commercial. If that was you, great work. I really want a large double pepperoni pie now.

I feel so honored that an accomplished blogger like yourself should approve of my rants and raves :D I am enjoying yours as well! I really like your new year’s resolutions philosophy! It has actually inspired my next topic.. well it reminded me of something else and inspired me too haha. AND yes, Paul is good at pushing his favorite drinks on people, isn’t he? Ask him about Christmas Eve and Fish House Punch and the story of how my family embraced Christmas with drunkenness….if you haven’t heard the story already (he was my bartender that night too… and he skipped the part where you fill a cup with ice….)
