DeLurking Day… late

blog

In my hours upon hours of exploring the hinterlands of the World Wide Web, I recently made a grave realization: I missed a very important day. A day celebrated by bloggers worldwide. A day which changes lives, reveals secrets, and promotes honesty… that is, for those who remembered it.

10 days ago, I missed DeLurking Day.

See? Someone even took the time to make a little graphic. Of a man with a frightening grin opening his trenchcoat to flash the world.

Well, Internet, that is what I would like for you to do for me. Flash away.

Tell me who you are! Tell me a little about yourself! For just this one day, delurk – then you can slip back into your shrouded anonymity, I promise. Even if I already know you, say hi. And if you’re going to try to pretend like you don’t read this blog and just walk away quietly, don’t fool yourself: I watch StatCounter like a hawk. I know you’re here.

To get the ball rolling, I’ll ask you a question: what is your favorite hoofed creature? Mine is the horse, followed closely by Mr. Tumnus.

Okay, and if that one didn’t satisfy, here’s another question option: do you have any recurring dreams? I do. As of late, I have been dreaming of three things: dogs, running, and vampires. All three things braid together in the strangest ways.

Fine, one more: if you could be any pop star for one glittering, spangled performance, who would it be? Whitney Houston, without a doubt. And I would be singing “I Have Nothing,” complete with the key change.

If you hate all of those questions and would rather tell me something random, like how many wild goats you think you could take in a fight, or your favorite flavor of syrup, or why you’re choosing to not delurk (haHA, I caught you!), by all means… Maybe I will choose my favorite comment and send a prize pack. When I get my next paycheck.

Happy delurking. I may be late, but at least I’m fashionably so.

Okay, okay…I am delurking :) Since hoofed animals kind of freak me out, I will just say that my favorite Annie Parsons blog post was the one where you wrote the letter to little AP. I really enjoy your blog…keep it up!

my favorite hoofed creature would without a doubt be a bison. they are enormous.

on a separate note, i can shell 47 pecans in 20 minutes.

    ponder over that.

I don’t know if StatCounter shows location, but computers these days seem to think I’m either in Kenya or Botswana. The reality is that I’m in Zambia (which I’ll admit, I didn’t know where that was until I got a job here)…

    Favorite hoofed creature: zebra

Recurring dream: something is chasing me and I am able to fly away. Except the flying is a flapping-of-wings, but more like swimming-through-air. What I would picture it feels like to be in the gravity-less environment of space. I always manage to escape.

Favorite syrup: chocolate. It makes anything taste better, I’m convinced. Sometimes for dessert, I eat frozen lite Cool Whip with a drizzle of Hershey’s syrup. Delish.

I’ve been reading your blog for quite some time, and constantly regret that we never managed to connect up in Seattle! Maybe if I do an interview in Nashville, or you’re back for the weekend in Seattle this summer or fall, we can meet in person!

giraffes have hoofs, right? i love giraffes.

and off the top of my head, i wouldn’t mind being christina aguilera in her candyman video. homegirl is kinda skanky, but she can sing her face off.

you are such a celebrity. :)

I’m Kelley from Guam – delurking late.

    1. giraffe
    2. nightmares with water and bridges
    3. rock-star?? I have no idea!!!

I enjoy your blog – keep it up!

I am so late to the delurk party. I go to UPC & both love your blog and when you come back and sing even if it was for something so incredibly heartbreaking. My favorite hoofed creature is definitely the noble moose… from a safe distance. I also like that the captcha word to type is 'fausta'. :)

Oh my gosh! You have a lot of readers!

Mr. Tumnus is definitley a favorite of mine – my younger sister and I used to hop around the house with bungy cords tied around our ankles pretending we were as cool as Tumnus. We acted out a lot of books, actually…

My recurring dream of late has been anything related to my wedding – basically all the things that could go wrong.

I’m a semi-frequent reader of your blog and always enjoy the humor and sincerity of your writing. The fact that you post almost daily amazes me – I am such a slacker in comparison!

I’m a little late, but I still thought I should reveal myself. :)

I read your blog quite frequently. Your videos are so cute. The other night I was sucked into the internet (as usual) and checking out your blog. I was inspired by one of your older videos and I have to tell you… you were so right! The lash blast mascara is AMAZING! Thank you Annie. I am also usually trying to eke out every last bit of my lancome or clinique. ;)

Anyway, thanks for your amazing blogging!

I mostly lurk – though I think I’ve commented once or twice.

    Hoofed – unicorns maybe
I have lots of recurring dreams – fires, falling, losing teeth (didn’t say they were pleasant dreams)
    And maybe Beyonce – I don’t know

Hi Annie! I found your blog through Andy Merrick’s! Hi!

    This is great stuff!

So to answer your fabulous questions:

-I would totally be a zebra, black and white is so classic and they jump so awesome in Lion King…

-Then for my glittering moment I would like to be Gloria Estefan.

-Sadly, I can’t recall any dreams! Bogus!

    Write on girl!

Of course I’m a few days late delurking mysself… I’ll blame it on the Time Zones. I know Crystal who knows Erin with the great hair and that’s how I found your blog. I’ve actually been lurking since you were on the letter C.

I want you to know I love reading your blog and I’ve felt so many of the emotions you’ve described. I pray for you regularly.

Whew. Now I feel so much better about creepily reading your blog. Perhaps I will comment a bit form here on out. Keep it up, your blog is spectacular and real.

In response to question 1: definitely a giraffe :)

annie. i read your blog daily. i enjoy it every time because, more often than not, i connect with what you write.

in answer to your posed questions:
    1. the fainting goat: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fainting_goat
    2.falling.
3.misty edwards in this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoC1ec-lYps&feature=PlayList&p=5AFE4C094C13838B&playnext=1&index=16
in addition, my favorite type of syrup is the good, old-fashioned pure maple syrup. and huckleberry.

someday, let's meet in real life when you come to seattle.

I missed delurking day the second time!
    So..

    Hoofed animal? Mr. Ed

Recurring dreams? Nope. Just recurring people

Glittery performance? Hmm..that’s tough. At first I thought of Whitey Houston – belting out ‘and Iiiiiiiieeeiiiiii will always lo-ove yooooou’ would be fun. But then I remembered back in high school (when nobody else was home or driving in my car) cranking up my Swing Kids soundtrack and singing at the top of my lungs to that one song that is playing in the club right before the Nazis storm in and wishing I could be a glamorous 40’s style club singer. So I’ll go with that.

I’m a complete lurker – I read every one of your entries with thorough enjoyment. I found your blog through my sister Beth, or maybe my cousin Marijke – I think you’re friends. Regardless though – you are one extremely talented gal, Annie! I love the way you see the world and describe it so eloquently to your (sometimes secret) readers. Never stop. :)

  19. Michelle Ferguson on January 25, 2009 at 9:53 PM

    1. Hoofed creature…water buffalo. Preferably baby water buffalo.

    2. Dream…something to do with a mission team, Cambodia, and plans continually not aligning as we hoped (this is also a recurring reality as well).

    3. Hannah Montana (mostly for the excuse to wear a blonde wig)

And we have 2 mutual friends in common that brought me to your blog.
    1. Emily Aichele.
    2. The city of Seattle.
