Michael J. Fox

blog

For the past couple of days, I’ve been starving for dinner by 3:45. Since my little temp job is from 7:30am-3pm, it’s very convenient – I can heat up some leftover curry that I cooked in the crock pot over the weekend, put on my sweats, get in bed, and watch “Oprah.”

I can’t believe I just admitted that.

Here, I’ll go a step further: yesterday, I also had a glass of boxed pinot grigio.  At 4pm.  In my bed.  With my curry, and “Oprah.”

But y’all.  Did you WATCH “Oprah” yesterday?  How much do we love Michael J. Fox?  A hundred million times.  I’m going to name my first-born after him.  Yes: JFox Parsons.

This man’s attitude and outlook on life is inspiring.  Parkinson’s is causing his body to turn on him, and he has lost control of so many basic physical abilities.  He talked about people staring, and the inability to keep his limbs still.  But he is continually thankful, continually hopeful, and continually positive.  He sees this disease as a gift – the thing that has caused him to appreciate his life, his family, his wife, and everything that he does have.

I have a lot to learn from him.

His quote of the show: “Happiness grows in direct proportion to your acceptance, and reverse proportion to your expectations.”

Wow – our lives are eerily parallel. Yesterday, I drank a glass of wine, reheated homemade orange chicken and watched Oprah. And YES, I was SO inspired by Michael J. Fox. I feel like I need to go read his book immediately for a quick-in-the-pants attitude adjustment. Seriously, what an inspiration!

(Oprah-related side-topic: did you see her trip to the YFZ ranch on Monday – holy crazy shizz, Batman!)

I didn’t have a glass of wine, curry or watch Oprah. But I did eat way too many cookies and watch the Biggest Loser. Does that count?

Emily, I don’t know you – but I also did the exact same thing. Looks like I am on multiple people’s eating/TV-watching wave-length.

This is what unemployment has done to my life …

MJF is awesome. I missed the show (because I don’t get home until 5pm), but I do agree. Positively inspiring.

I didn’t get to see MJF on Oprah, but I read another quote of his: “Happiness is a choice.” It’s very simple but it’s very true. He chooses to be happy and chooses to have a positive outlook. We are all in charge of our own happiness… it is not granted to us. We choose everyday.

I love love love Michael J Fox and I can’t wait to see his disease cured!
