Let’s talk about:

blog

The comments that you left in response to Thursday’s blog
I was blown away by a couple of things: 1) the TRUTH that was so evident in so much of what you were saying, and 2) the HONESTY about something that isn’t easily summed up in a cliché phrase.  I love that so many of you felt free to share a glimpse into your own stories and experiences with that curious thing called Love.

For the record, I am in agreement with many of you: I don’t believe in “The One”; rather, I think that I will wind up with “A One.”  If I believed in “The One,” I would have married JC Chasez when I was 15.

And on a personal note, I loved it when Casey said, “You ‘know’ when your introvertedness doesn’t mind sharing your space with that person.”  I’m pretty sure that in my case, that will be the flashing marquee sign telling me to go to Vegas RIGHT THIS SECOND.

Lord of the Rings
Last week, my roommate Julie told me that she had never read nor seen “Lord of the Rings.”  I think that I shrieked, “WHAT??!?” and then fell down dead.  But after the disbelief came action, and we watched “The Fellowship of the Ring” and “The Two Towers” this weekend.

Have you ever had the chance to watch something epic – something that has changed your own life, something that has become an essential piece of how you view the world – affect someone else for the first time?  It was so, so fun – and I think that Julie is hooked, even though she kept calling Strider “Striker.”

Micah’s 6th birthday

Yesterday, my nephew Micah turned 6.  I saw him last week, and when I asked him about his upcoming birthday, he said, “I can’t wait to turn 6!  When you are 6, you can do SUCH FUN THINGS – like a cartwheel and lose a tooth!”

And my cynical, disillusioned heart melted into a puddle.

Kudos to you for introducing Julie to Lord of the Rings. It is absolutely essential.

And I love what Micah said – kids know how to really savor the little things. (Though losing a tooth at 6 is BIG!)

Same reaction I get when I tell people that I have never read nor seen Lord of the Rings… Happy Birthday, Micah. :)

I’ve been wanting to comment on your last post since I saw it, but haven’t been able to come up with the perfect words.

I’ve recently fallen into this amazing love and it’s almost impossible to describe. It was instant and intense and it’s totally incredible and core-shaking.

The thing that I think is important to mention, though, is that I think it only happened this intensely because he and I are both complete heart-on-your-sleeve hopeless romantics. If either one of us had a wall up or was closed off at all it wouldn’t be this amazing and definitely wouldn’t have been instant. If he weren’t as open with everything that’s happening I wouldn’t be able to do that either and it wouldn’t be quite so loveatfirstsight.

So! Yes, I think it can happen and completely rock your world, but I don’t think everyone should wait for it, or should discount it if it doesn’t happen exactly like that. Being open enough to let it just take you and not worry about being hurt is terrifying and I think it’s rare for two people with such open hearts to come together.

Wait… 6 is when you’re supposed to be able to cartwheel? I’m 28 and can’t do it. I feel a little bit like I missed something.

So… I’m one of those old “friends of house 9″… Julie, Val, and Dani would be THE reasons I started blogging that half-decade ago. I say that to say this: Because I follow the blogs of House 9 affiliates, I have heard of you and been link-referred to your blog about one zillion times. And, after a few readings, I find it great! It’s going in the aggregator (which strangely sounds like I’m going to put your blog in something like a garbage disposal… but I’m not). Thanks for writing! (And congrats on the EP!)

Also… I’m using this post as a good example of simple blogging techniques for a Peace Corps All Volunteer conference. So… thanks in advance.

And also… I forgot to say that your pouring oatmeal down your throat bit in an earlier post was hilarious. Hilarious.

I, too, have never seen Lord of the Rings. Or Star Wars. Or Rocky. Or really any series of movies in their entirety. I suck at movie watching.
