Couches and men

blog

You’re dying to know about the Great Sofa Hunt.

Here’s the thing: I wish that I could be content with just any couch.  But if there is one word to describe Annie Parsons, it is “particular” – just ask my poor parents who have watched me for 1 score and 7 years (often with much chagrin – sorry, Mom and Dad).  I am so persnickety, it’s appalling.

Because I don’t have a lot of money, one would think that I would be happy with whatever might get tossed my way – but nay, I say to thee.

NAY.

Because I don’t have a lot of money, that is ALL THE MORE REASON to invest my dollars wisely.  It might not make a lot of sense, I know, but here is my line of thinking: why spend $200 dollars on something heinous that will make me miserable and ashamed every time I lay my poor, unfortunate eyes on it when I could spend $1,000 on something that will make my heart burst with sprinkles?  I would rather pay more money once than less money what would wind up being multiple times.

The obvious trouble is that I usually do not have confetti-inducing funds just lying in a manila envelope under my mattress.  If I did, I sure wouldn’t be driving a 20-year old Honda Accord – but then again, that’s EXACTLY why I’m driving a 20-year old Honda Accord.  I could go out right now and buy a 1993 Saturn (no offense, if that’s you), but why would I do that when what I really want is keyless entry and seat warmers?  It’s worth waiting for.

Does this make sense to anyone but me?

In other words, I am still couchless.

And single, as it were.

There are probably some parallels there.

Oh, I hear ya. I am craft-cupboard-less for the same reason.

And the pickiness is SO WORTH IT in the relationship arena. (And in many other areas, actually.)

    Hold out for that quality!

I went through the same sofa problem a couple months ago. My persnicketiness got the best of me. I ended up finding a sofa at I.O. Metro. Its better than Ikea but not quite DWR. Doesn’t look like you have one around Colorado though. Good luck finding a sofa. That’s definitely the most important piece of furniture you will own.

    Annie –

Keep an eye on zgallerie.com There’s also one in downtown Denver and while their stuff is usually a little pricey – you can find some GREAT deals on quality furniture on sale!

That line of thinking makes total sense to me :) I like how it is all encompassing too: couch, car, men.

Annie, I’m particular too! Although my family is more likely to call it picky and impossible… So you hold out for as long as you need to. You will find the perfect (for you) couch/man eventually!

I dunno, AP…I’m pretty pleased with my $15 “Reading Chair” from Salvation Army. May not be the best place for you to pick up guys though…

I think you’ve just doomed yourself to an long troling of Craigs List

Annie, too bad you can’t find both at Sofa Mart!

This sofa is worth every penny… It’s so perfect for cuddling and watching a movie. So when you’re ready to commit, I’m ready to start a bake sale to raise money for the “Annie Parson’s Desperately Needs This Sofa” Fund. :-)

I’ve always been one who loved the challenge of finding the great deal on the heart bursting furniture. This is why a great deal of my spare time goes into flea market and thrift store adventures. They’re like little gold mines when you find what you’re looking for.

As a girl who rode a bike till I could afford the keyless entry car, went through several dysfunctional relationships and am now married to the most perfect man for me on the planet, and searched through the entire Puget Sound for just the perfect couch, I can tell you that the wait is worth it. In every arena. Don’t settle. I’m so glad I didn’t. :)

Hahaha… I am this way down to minutia. I went to three markets in Yerevan looking for the “right” potato peeler and ended up buying one from the first guy I visited. And I try on EVERY pair of jeans, and the ones I might buy I try on twice… and usually don’t buy anything.

ahhh annie, this entry slays me. I’m not really to the whole furniture stage of life yet, but for now I’m picky about clothes. and men. and I think it’s the same thing really… and you are worth keyless entry in every way!!
