Indicative of things to come

blog

One time, when I was 5, we lived next door to a girl my age.  Her grandparents gave her a Popple.  I wanted it so badly that I asserted my Alpha Girl status, and she gave it to me.

A few days later when her grandparents found out she gave it away, they sent her to our house to reclaim it.  As she was carrying it home, I ran down the hallway and, with a flying leap, tackled her to the ground.

My family brings up this story frequently.

Um… Totally understandable. My cherished Popple (recieved for a 7th birthday) stayed with me all the way through college. It got the boot when I got married, though, and now resides in a keepsake box – I can see it starting at me through the plastic prison every time I pull in the garage.

    That’s hysterical!!

Maybe you learned a little restraint in the years since, because I have a really hard time conjuring a mental image of you linebacker-tackling anyone.

my parents got me a popple when I had to have a big surgery. we went the night before for an orientation, and on the way out they kept making comments that they heard a jingling noise. “I think it’s coming from our car!” I was only 5 but I was like “we are inside the hospital and there is no way you can hear a jingling in our car.” and my popple was in the trunk. score!!

I no longer have my popple, but I have a stuffed bear and seal (Buddy Bear and Old Seal) that have been with me for most of my 29 years :).

    That’s hysterical!
I told my neighbors they were going to hell when I was about 4.I’m pretty sure that I had the concept of grace down pat. My mom has somehow blacked that out.

I’ve been wavering about whether or not to admit that i had a popple sleeping bag. Oddly, it did not get me invited to all the “cool girl” sleepovers. IT SO SHOULD HAVE.

Ah… I just about died reading this. I was one of those Alpha-girls, too. I once was making signs with my friend for our club house in kindergarten. I took her poster and crumpled it up and said “oops. I don’t know why I did that!” (it was because I thought her hand writing looked like crap in comparison to mine)… and when she was leaving our little hideout clubhouse under the stairs to tell her mom, I may have slammed her fingers in the door to keep her from telling on me. I seriously cried for a week straight until I told my mom what I did and she brought me over to the girl’s house, had me apologize with the girl, pray with her to save our friendship, and then my mother proceeded to spank me in front of her. Bad choice. I’m ashamed, but also kind of amazed I chose to do that.

I’m one of those people that go from blog-to-blog-to-blog without being able to trace back how I would know the person. I know a friend of a friend (Heidi Weisman Sause). Love the writing. Keep pouring your heart out!
