Burning Daylight Foods

blog

One night last fall, I came home to find a package from my friend Dani.  I opened it up, and – SCORE! – homemade granola!  Belying my civilized charade, I promptly ripped open the bag and poured it directly into my mouth.  Yes, like a savage.

Except it was not granola.  It was oatmeal.

Shocking.

But you know what?  I didn’t even mind that it was dry oatmeal coating my mouth – because it was THAT GOOD.  Or, at least, it was better than pouring dry Quaker Oats directly into my mouth – one hundred times better than pouring Target’s Market Pantry oatmeal into my mouth!  In fact, if I were ever to pour dry oatmeal into my mouth again, I would hope for oatmeal like Dani’s.

This is all to say that Dani and her family make some DELICIOUS cereal – whole grain and hearty and healthy.  And this is your lucky day – because Burning Daylight Foods is putting together an Easter basket full of scrumptious breakfast goodies, and YOU could win it!

All you need to do is leave a comment saying something – anything – about breakfast.  It could be something like, “I love Corn Flakes,” or “i can haz eggz?” or “I stole the Nun Bun.”

Comments will close tomorrow at 5pm Denver time – or, you know, whenever I remember to close them.  And then, using high-tech means, a winner will be chosen.

It could be you!  Seriously, this is the easiest contest ever.  It’s like taking candy from a baby – except the candy is cereal, and the baby is a cowgirl in southern California.

Umm…this food looks delicious! And it’d be way better than my Mt.Dew and chocolate breakfast that I normally end up with! Please pick me! No one ever picks comment 1, but I think today should be a first.

If I could manage to not eat the whole jar in one sitting I would probably eat Nutella and French bread for breakfast every day.

I had a stretch where I would make batches of granola for myself. Thanks for the reminder–I need to do that again.

  8. Tim on March 30, 2010 at 10:51 AM

ahaha… you poured it directly into your mouth. By the way you tore into that, I kinda wish I was making some already, then you might sell me your birthright before I gave you some

“We’re all pretty bizarre. Some of us are just better at hiding it, that’s all” (if you need help with that, let me know)

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Which is why eating it in my car on the way to work seems to diminish its importance – except for the part where I can be civil when I get to the office because I’m not starving LOL.

  11. Jamie on March 30, 2010 at 11:04 AM

yummy yummy. i eat fiber one bars every day of my life for breakfast, so some new granola would sure spice things up!

  12. rachel on March 30, 2010 at 11:06 AM

I’m on a big Multigrain Cheerios kick. Yummy! Except on Sundays, cause thats when my husband makes breakfast burritos. REALLY yummy!

  13. Catherine on March 30, 2010 at 11:07 AM

Cereal is one of my top 5 favorite foods. But for the past year I’ve tried to cut down on calories by eating All Bran. Takes away the thrill quite a bit. Ugh.

Ireland has the annoying habit of changing the names for things. The garbage can is the bin here. The trunk of the car is called the boot. They’ve even changed meal names. For lunch you eat dinner. For dinner, you eat your tea (as if! You drink tea!). But not even the Irish had the balls to call breakfast by any other name.

I LOVE breakfast. One of my favorite things is going to fun breakfast places when I’m visiting a new town. Also, for an entire summer in college I ate Grape Nuts with walnuts, raisins and milk everyday for breakfast. You should try it.

  22. ShesthatOneGirl on March 30, 2010 at 12:08 PM

this morning I dined on ice water and dark chocolate m&ms…

  23. Ginger on March 30, 2010 at 12:19 PM

    1. I love breakfast.
    2. My mom talked about your blog repeatedly this weekend. She said your story with the underwear and Southwest was the second funniest thing she had ever read.
    3. The funniest thing she has ever read is your mom’s comment on that particular post.
    4. Much love.

  24. Jennifer on March 30, 2010 at 12:36 PM

I eat oatmeal every day for breakfast (when I’m at work), the weekends are a different story :)

  28. Alissa on March 30, 2010 at 1:33 PM

I just recently (as in last month) willingly ate an egg that was not in scrambled form. Is it a wonder my toddler won’t touch an egg… but LOVES oatmeal?

All around the country, from coast to coast… people always ask “What do you like most?” … I don’t want to brag, I don’t want to boast… So I always tell them “I like toast.”

  31. Riley on March 30, 2010 at 1:46 PM

(sung to the tune of “farmer in the dell”)

    oatmeal in my mouth
    oatmeal in my mouth

What a great way {breakfast} to get a ton of comments {breakfast} on your blog {breakfast}.

    :)

Love your blog. Love breakfast. Love me some contest winnings!

    {pick me}

  36. Emily on March 30, 2010 at 3:00 PM

Riley’s comment said to sing to the tune of the Farmer and the Dell, but I could only think of it to the tune of “Pants on the ground.”

    I feel pathetic.

I would probably feel a lot less pathetic after a hearty breakfast!

    I love breakfast.

  37. Matt on March 30, 2010 at 3:07 PM

I’m running out of Strawberry Shredded Wheat and Reece’s Puffs! I could live on breakfast food. In college I basically did. Seriously.

  38. Darcy on March 30, 2010 at 3:20 PM

Breakfast rocks! You know what’s better than breakfast? Free breakfast!!

  39. Kate on March 30, 2010 at 3:22 PM

Is it bad to have breakfast three times a day? Cereal in the morning, scrambled eggs around noon, and sausage and pancakes in the evening. That’s a balanced diet, right?

  40. Deborah Barnett on March 30, 2010 at 3:30 PM

I do love me some breakfasting… however, if I had some homemade oatmeal… I would make my famous oatmeal & chocolate chip cookies (laced with an ungodly amount of vanilla extract)…

Just ask Kristina Pettigrew… she has literally (and I mean, she actually did this) dropped to her knees and begged me to make them for her… and I’ve just been using Quaker oats!

Of course, if I’m honest… I “have” had these for breakfast. So yeah… we can say this is a breakfast comment.

ps… of course you know I’d send you some of the cookies. And um… that’s not bribery, I promise.

Some people strive for buns of steel, but I’d be perfectly happy with buns of cinnamon. :)

  42. Hot Toddy on March 30, 2010 at 4:02 PM

In Sweden they eat vegetables for breakfast. Stuff like tomatoes and cucumbers. I think that is wrong.

  43. Kristin McGary on March 30, 2010 at 4:15 PM

    When the toast is burned
And all the milk has turned
And Captain Crunch is waving farewell
When the big one finds you
    May this song remind you
That they don’t serve breakfast in hell

    … Newsboys anyone?

  44. Monica Erichsen on March 30, 2010 at 6:03 PM

    I want oatmeal that’s 100x better than Target’s!

  46. Julianne on March 30, 2010 at 8:14 PM

I just learned that “oats raise blood sugar levels relatively slowly, so oat-based breakfast cereals provide a more sustained energy boost than other cereals.” I read that in my baby meals book…so…I think my baby needs some oatmeal…and so do I. (Can residents of Canada win this prize?)

  47. Darla on March 30, 2010 at 9:02 PM
