Wake up

blog

Something filled up my heart with nothing,
Someone told me not to cry.
But now that I’m older, my heart’s colder,
And I can see that it’s a lie.
-Arcade Fire

I would rather be ashes than dust!  I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry-rot.  I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet.  The function of man is to live, not to exist.  I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them.  I shall use my time.
-Jack London

I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
-Jesus

“Robert McKee says humans naturally seek comfort and stability. Without an inciting incident that disrupts their comfort, they won’t enter into a story. They have to get fired from their job or be forced to sign up for a marathon. A ring has to be purchased. A home has to be sold. The character has to jump into the story, into the discomfort and the fear, otherwise the story will never happen.” – Donald Miller, “A Million Miles in a Thousand Years”

I’m so happy you’re listening to Arcade Fire! I had them on in the car this morning on the way to work, in fact. Dan loves them so much he is driving all the way up to Canada next weekend to see them play live.

Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart. – unknown, from the magnet on my fridge.

Just thought of another one that I am LOVING right now:

“…make a radical change in your lifestyle and begin to boldly do things which you may never have thought of doing, or been too hesitant to attempt. So many people live within unhappy circumstance and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind – but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure.”

Love that freaking Jack London quote. And Jesus is never bad, of course.

    Thanks, man.
