I plan on being spontaneous

blog

Next week, I am taking the entire week off of work. The entire week.

For vacation.

I don’t think I have ever had an entire week of vacation, ever in my life. I’ve taken 7-day stretches off of work, but have used them for crazy travel plans (ping-pong flights, weddings, road-trips, holidays, family events). Never have I ever taken a solid Monday through Friday with weekends on both ends, and decided to stay put.

This is my only plan: do not leave Colorado.

Except, that’s not true. You all know that I’ve planned it a bit more than that. In fact, last week, someone who knows me better than I thought called me out on it: “I don’t believe you. You totally have the week planned out.”

I denied it, because technically, I don’t know what’s going to happen when.

But he was totally right.

Here are some of my hopes for the week:
-Climb 3 mountains
-Snuggle my visiting nephews
-Go to the Denver Zoo
-See the final installment of “Harry Potter”
-Get a massage
-Turn 29-years old
-Go for ice cream

Because as long as I can plan on it, the spontaneous will come easily.

Any other ideas of what I should do with my “unplanned” time off? What would you do?

Get lost in a good book at a cozy coffee shop! Buy some flowers for your place at the beginning of the week so you can enjoy them all week long. Make a delicious dinner. That’s what I would do : )

I’m so glad you’re taking a vacation! I’ve totally thought about doing this before. If I had a week off at home, I’d go to a yoga class every day, go on a couple hikes or bike rides. I’d spend most of my time in the kitchen, though, trying out a bunch of new recipes that I never have enough time to make. I really need to do this sometime. Have fun!

I like your list! I’m enjoying my final couple weeks as a professional vacationer, so I’m trying to squeeze the remaining juice out of every moment too. Besides being outdoors as much as possible, I’d add enjoying a quality book and quality beverage, as well as some toe-tapping hours with headphones on searching for a new band/song to connect with.

Happy Early Birthday, my friend! I’m taking a cooking class as part of my own mini-vacation. I love the yoga idea and I would also plan a board game night with some friends, complete with culinary theme (costumes not required though). :) Take your time, enjoy your time. Best wishes!

Adam and I have been doing some stay-cationing this summer and it’s kinda awesome.
I like Pedicures. And smoothies. And cooking elaborate meals. And having friends over. And playing games. And star-gazing. And swimming. And writing. And laying on the beach. And reading in the hammock. And drinking beers. And fishing. And hiking. And buying magazines. And going to Starbucks for absolutely no good reason at all, other than I WANT IT.

I second the pedicure, the book, and swimming. I’ll add: sleep late, make pancakes, and do something deliciously sinful during the day, while everyone else is WORKING, like drink, nap, or brunch. Glad you’re treating yourself!!!

Find a rooftop patio and drink on it.

Two words: Casa Bonita. It’s a Colorado institution, and if you haven’t done it yet, well…you’ve missed out. This suggestion works best for 11-year-olds planning birthday parties, but it’s really fun for all ages.

When you get a small package from your dad later this week, don’t open it until August 4th. Just because it’s fun to have something to open on August 4th. Love, Dad

I’m in London right now, and I’m not really planning out my days, either. I have a list of things I want to make sure I do, but I don’t really decide ahead of time what I’m going to do on any given day. It’s pretty freaking awesome. :)
