BOOK
I just finished reading Wild by Cheryl Strayed.  I can’t tell you what this book did to my heart.  I can tell you that wherever life takes me next, I’m going on a major backpacking trip first.  If you know me at all, you’ve already heard me talk about it.

SONG
Say what you will about Taylor Swift’s latest album, but I can tell you this: “All Too Well” is classic Taylor, and it hits me in the gut.

QUOTE
“How we spend our minutes is how we spend our lives.”  I don’t know who’s credited with coining that phrase, but it’s hitting home for me these days.  I want to spend my minutes well – which means, ugh, maybe I need to stop watching “Dawson’s Creek” on Netflix.

PLAN
I recently volunteered to be bumped from a flight in exchange for a travel voucher.  I’ve decided that I want to use it on a solo vacation somewhere peaceful in early 2013.  Requirements: a beach, a kitchen, and plenty of quiet.  Any ideas for where I should go?

aqua resort in tola, rivas, nicaragua…it´s way out there, but it is blissfully quiet, private bay, organic restaurant, yoga on the beach and these fabulous little treehouses complete with furnished kitchen, living area, spacious upstairs bathroom and bath and a plunge pool on the patio that overlooks the bay.

if you´re interested in traveling to central america that is, hah!

if you need a kitchen, use homeaway.com . We used it to rent a little rooftop apartment in Paris for 3 days and had the best time making our own meals and taking picnics out with us when we pleased. have fun!

That book sounds amazing and exactly the kind of reading I love to do. Since college I’ve dreamed of doing the PCT or some other pilgrimage.

Maybe SW will fly to Hawaii by early next year?!

I’m on a solo vacay now! at the beach…with a kitchen. and it’s quiet, except for the cathartic crashing of the waves

I thought one of requirements was a kitten. Maybe it should be?

Love Taylor’s new stuff. Not a country fan by any stretch but her latest hit is catchy and is basically stuck in my head at all times.

There are some lovely and peaceful islands off the Georgia Coast. I’m not sure when hurricane season ends though, so you’ll want to check that out before doing anything on the east coast.

I am reading “Wild” right now. It’s amazing and I am ready to go!

I just read Wild, too. I had mixed feelings about it, though.

I did solo vacation a few years back to Hawaii. Found an apartment for rent for a week on the North Shore of Oahu that met all those criteria. plus had a bike for use and surfboards. Great sushi too:)

I will see that South Padre Island, Texas has the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. Not sure of a kitchen and quiet, but gorgeous. Also, just another reason we are friends, I asked for the entire series of Dawson’s Creek for Christmas….this year. :)

Um, come to the Philippines? Free place to stay, and English widely spoken! xo

“How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.”

The author of your mystery quote is another Annie, Annie Dillard — in Pilgrim at Tinker Creek.

Her Tinker Creek intersects with the Appalachian Trail in Virginia. Backpacking there and a few other long-distance thru-hikes transformed (maybe even saved) my life.

In the words of a poem by Annie Dillard:
“Do it, do it, do it.
I beseech you, I beseech you,
I beseech you, I beseech you.”
