Seen
I go on walks – long walks – pretty much every day, sometimes multiple times a day, sometimes alone late at night. (I know. Just… I know. I shouldn’t do it. I know.) Recently on these walks, I have seen:
Twin Old Ladies
Y’all. I’m not EVEN kidding. There they were, up ahead of me, in… can it be?… matching plaid shirts? Matching shorts? Identical shoes and ankle socks? Synchronized strides with their EXACT SAME little calves? When I caught up with them, I asked them if they were twins. They turned their faces to me, and IT WAS THE SAME WOMAN, DUPLICATED. Indistinguishable. They told me – in very sweet Southern accents, no less – that they live together, and work together, and have done everything side-by-side their entire lives. It was cute.
Also, weird.
But really, cute. Endearing. Unexpected.
However, maybe not as unexpected as…
A coyote
I know. You want to tell me, “Annie, it was just a dog.”
But I’m sorry. What kind of house-pup looks like this?
This was no little desert coyote, either. It was a very large, muscular, FOREST coyote, emerging at dusk from the dark bushes and freezing at the sight of Julie and me. We just kept walking, and it ran in the other direction. But honestly. Cockroaches? Possums? COYOTES? My urban oasis is being overrun with life-threatening disturbances.
Keep an eye on your ferrets, Nashville.

LOVE the twins story! That is adorable. And yes, a little … odd. But so so cute. Good for them! :)
I’m obsessed with twins.
I really want to be one. I’m not ever going to see that dream realized.
this makes me happy. and terribly sad. because never before have i (until now) wanted a twin.
and now
i do.
where is she?
Oh yeah! My friends have spotted Coyotes in my old Neighborhood off West End. We’re being overrun…
Best line…
“Also, weird.”
Haha
OH. MY. wow. this is hysterical! especially the twins! bless their hearts.
speaking as a twin, you better be glad they responded sweetly to you asking if they were twins. that line of questioning can go terribly wrong. and dressing the same is not probably as “awesome” or “cute” as you may think. however, I will let you enjoy the anomaly that is a set of twins. we, the shared womb ones have come to terms with it.
also…it IS pretty cool
I kind of love those twins.
I’m also kind of scared of those twins.
Can’t wait to see you Monday!
Weirdest thing…we must be living parallel lives. I saw twin old ladies in the grocery store the other day AND had a (vicarious) coyote-related experience.
The ladies were Jean and June, who apparently always match their clothes: that day, it was matching coral blazers, black and white jungle-y tops, white pants, white loafers and, of course, white hair.
And the coyote-man picture you posted is freakily similar to the mental image I got when I heard this story on YouTube (go to minute 1:30):

I really enjoy your blog, by the way. Thanks for writing!
Last summer when we went on the Mediterranean Cruise, there were two 75+ year-old women who were twins and it was the same thing…matching shoes, outfits, hats, purses…everything. One of them was married and one of them wasn’t, so they both kind of hung around the one old guy. When we were at the Trevi Fountain, this Asian lady asked them if she could take their picture. Our tour guide was watching and asked me “what? Don’t they have twins in her country?”
My questions are: do they only shop together? Or do you just buy two of anything you really like? And also, who gets to pick the outfit? Finally…do they do EVERYTHING together? Even number two?
[…] when Julie and I saw a coyote last year? Well, they’re […]
