Welcome – and please never leave

blog

It’s been a long time. I was starting to think that the day would never come. But finally, after days and weeks and months of absolute agony, the moment has finally arrived:

I am in a good mood.

A genuinely good mood.

Welcome, Fall. You have been missed.

The people of Nashville tell me that this summer was mild. These words feel like a frying pan to the face – a disorienting blow that leaves me dazed, confused, and frankly, a bit pissed off. What do you mean, “mild”? This summer was the most miserable season OF MY LIFE. I didn’t sleep because it was too hot. I didn’t exercise because it was too hot. I didn’t do my hair because it was too hot. I didn’t smile because it was too hot.

You might call me a weather wimp. But I say to thee, HOLD YOUR JUDGMENT: you never see me scoffing at the people who become depressed in the dark and cold winter months – mostly because I am gleefully drinking tea and being cozy. I’ve never really liked the summer – but this is the first year that I genuinely hated the summer. I honestly do not know if I will willingly choose to live through another Nashville hot-season – not on purpose.

But the doleful summer days are now gone. Or at least – almost gone. I know that it’s supposed to get back into the 80’s tomorrow and for the remainder of the week, and who knows what next week will bring. But today, I am wearing a scarf. I am back to my lunchtime walks. I am feeling the change in the air.

What is this strange feeling?

Oh. Happiness. Long overdue, honest-to-God happiness.

I swear I thought I was the only one around who thought the summer was too hot. Bring on fall!

    You speak my language, Annie.
Don your boots, sweaters and jeans, and frolick in the glory that is fall.

After all, you wear your denim well.

    ;)

happiness? what’s happiness? all i i know is HEAT, HEAT, and more HEAT. and the only definition of fall i can remember is my daily face plant in the sand due to large scraps of metal or open manholes. so sorry to rain on your parade…wait, what is rain again?

    Today is school picture day.

I had a great outfit picked out. It was stylish, simple, professional, and classy. It involved a sweater– not a heavy sweater, mind you, but a light, 3/4 length sleeve sweater that would be perfect for weather under 70 degrees.

The weather man promised me weather under 70 degrees.

He changed his mind this morning. It’s supposed to be in the fu*%ing 80’s.

    I AM SO GRUMPY!

You’re wearing a scarf in 80 degree weather?

i am totally the same way. i don’t even really like summer…i like spring a lot, but i am IN LOVE with fall. even cold, wet winters i actually enjoy, for it is those times when i can snuggle up with a warm chunky sweater and socks and a cozy blanket and sit out on the porch and smell the cold air with a frozen nose. when i can enjoy the quietness of the cool. the calm of the shade. my eyes can open bigger, my senses are more awake.

Yay for Autumn! Spring and Autumn are my favorite seasons.

Total agreement at this end. It’s still sunny, here, but the cool Fall breeze is sneaking in… love it, love it, love it…

Actually, today it is NOT sunny. Today, Fall is back in full force.

Sorry, my brain is running 2 weeks late. I despise summer. (Except this summer, it was nice and full of activities.) Fall is my favorite, and winter is a very close second.

I empathize with you on many things, but the heat in Nashville is one of the strongest. I would not still be there, for that reason alone.
