A conversation in Wal-Mart
Micah: Auntie Oonis, I know that you want to get married and have kids someday.
Annie: Who told you that?
Micah: Grandma.
Annie: Oh. Well, she’s right.
Micah: Why aren’t you married yet?
[Because God is just busy building some lucky man’s character, bank account, and biceps.]
Annie: I don’t know, buddy.
Micah: Well, if you ever do find a husband, he’d better buy your ring RIGHT THERE. [points at the Wal-Mart jewelry counter] … whoa, did you see that girl in Spiderman pajamas?
– – – – – – – –
Don’t worry, Micah – I am living proof that a girl needn’t be married in order to own this sexy piece of machinery:
!!!!!!!!!
Best birthday present ever! Thanks, Mom and Dad! I’ve waited my whole life for this moment!
And the very first thing I’m going to make? Debbie’s curry hummus.
Look out, Denver.

And to think that in just two short days I will be face to face with this little charmer! I’ll even wear Spiderman pajamas if it will score me points with the nephews.
And, speaking of comic book heroes, HOLY FOOD PROCESSOR BATMAN! Next up, fancy trash can … :)
yes!!!!!!! Finally! So thrilled for you… and can’t wait to hear how the hummus turns out!
I keep telling my mom that I want to register for an “I’m living on my own but not having a wedding”
Hasn’t worked yet.
i hate wedding showers bc all of the cool contraptions the brides-to-be get just make me think, “gaaahh i can’t wait to be married and get all this awesome crap!”
but then i think, “i think being single and having tons of awesome crap is kind of amazing…”
i might just go buy myself a waffle iron and a food processor just to make myself feel better.
and glad you’re loving having those boys around :)
YAY!!! You got the Cuisinart!!! Whoo hoo!!!
I KNOW I was over 35 when I received my food processor! So you are way ahead of the game. Hummus is by far the biggest pay-off for one of these bad-boys. Have fun! And congrats on this acquisition.
Kate – I’m with you. The bridal shower (meant to get YOUNG couples started) has out-lived its usefulness.
AND…personally I think registration for gifts in general is a pretty good idea. That way you could actually acquire nice china over some time without getting married.
[Because God is just busy building some lucky man’s character, bank account, and biceps.]
Haha! He must be working on mine too.
Your nephews are so charming. Aww.
And, no, you do not need to be married to enjoy owning fabulous kitchen appliances.
Happy Belated Birthday!
I own that glorious machine. You will love it!
One should never wait for marriage to get fine kitchen gear or to cut their hair. I discovered this after meeting my husband 6 months after a 12 inch chop off my hair (which I had kept long…just in case).
Hope your birthday was as fabulous as you are!!
cooked fava beans + juice of one lemon + garlic + salt + olive oil makes really good hummus too. I just made it for dinner. favas are a lot of work(soak, blanch, peel, boil then process with other stuff)but so worth it.
yum. have fun!!
